Sunday Song Lyric:
Hanukkah is "almost hip," according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer. The CPD largely credits Adam Sandler and his Hanukkah Song (really songs) helped highlight the holiday. There are at least three versions of the song. Here's a portion of the first.
Put on your yalmulka, here comes Hanukkah
Its so much fun-akkah to celebrate Hanukkah,

Hanukkah is the Festival of Lights,
Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights.

When you feel like the only [E] kid in town without a Xmas tree,
Heres a list of people who are Jewish, just like you and me:

David Lee Roth lights the menorrah,
So do James Caan, Kirk Douglas, and the late Dinah Shore-ah
An Adam Sandler fan site has the full lyrics (with chords). A video is here.

Hanukkah is definitely hip.

Tippy tap toe! Happy Hanukah!
‘Round you go! My little latke!
On your toes! Happy Hanuka!
And around and around you go!

Clap your hands! Happy Hanuka!
Clap clap hands! My little shtroodler!
On your toes! Happy Hanuka!
And around and around you go!

Jump real high! Happy Hanuka!
Jump jump high! My little fruitycake!
On your toes! Happy Hanuka!
And around and around you go!

Run real fast! Happy Hanuka!
Runny run run! My little sugar pie!
On your toes! Happy Hanuka!
And around and around you go!

Hop hop hop! Happy Hanuka!
Hoppity hop! My little rabbit!
On your toes! Happy Hanuka!
And around and around you go!

Skippy skip skip! Happy Hanuka!
Skippity skip! My little honeybun!
On your toes! Happy Hanuka!
And around and around you go!

{I took these lyrics from somewhere...they sound correct but I'm not positive).

Is there a correct accepted spelling for the word Chanukah? Are there regional variations? Are there national variations?
Hanukkah, Chanukkah, Hanukah, Hannukah, Channukah etc.

Are there Galicia, Litvak, Russian, German, Austria-Hungary differences?

Bottom line- light the candles and give children presents.

Yes. חֲנֻכָּה. How you render that in Latin characters is entirely a matter of opinion, preference, or sheer whim.

Well, there's certainly an accepted spelling. You just have to use the Hebrew alphabet. I don't think there's a single one for English. I see Hanukkah the most often.

Serious obscurity here. Phil Leeds did "The Whole World is Jewish" in 1966, that has some similarity to Sandler's lyrics. Leeds (or whoever the lyricist was) was making it up, however: Frank Sinatra's Jewish, can you believe it?

It was on the flip side of "The Ballad of Irving."

Syd Henderson - Although everyone seems to agree on the vowels.

Which is kinda ironic, since I've often heard that written Hebrew (maybe just ancient) doesn't record vowels in words.

In "When you feel like the only [E] kid in town without a Xmas tree," what does the "[E]" mean? I've never seen that before.

E-major chord? Maybe the lyrics quoted were copied from a fakebook.

Dinah Shore is Jewish? That's a real shocker.

It all supports my theory that a "systematic" Jewish holocaust was impossible because the Nazis had no objective and reliable ways of identifying Jews and non-Jews.

Larry Fafarman - so because the nazis wanted to do it perfectly systematically but couldn't, they didn't do it at all? Or is wasn't as evil? By that reasoning, no one has ever played baseball, made love, or taught school either.

I didn't say they didn't do it at all -- I said they didn't and couldn't do it "systematically." And they couldn't come anywhere near doing it systematically. Sheeesh.
