Good God, I should bloody well hope the insightful legal analysis of the Volokh Conspiracy is worth more than the link farming and tawdry, predictable partisan blather of that hack Glenn Reynolds.
It would make more sense in an advertising negotiation. Stating your blog is worth that much would allow you to get higher returns for adds. On their end they can state that your higher traffic should already provide more returns. The figure I would like to see is how much money is lost in productivity of your readers...
Mine is worth $564.54. But I'm only ten posts in. Which means it's a hot stock -- so get in while you can! I'll only be accepting links for a limited time...
Do we even know if it is Eugene's to sell? I remember something about it being based on a partnership model...
Moreover, assuming that you wanted to purchase The VC as an ongoing enterprise, you can't just ask Eugene. The value of The VC is based on the readership of its posts, I presume. And, of course, while Eugene is the author of many of the posts, I'd bet that other Conspirators write the majority of the posts. So you'd have to make some sort of employment arrangement with Eugene and the other Conspriators to keep them posting, and obviously Eugene couldn't make the others agree to terms that they felt were unfair. How much would Orin, Jonathan, Todd, Ilya, et al require you to pay for them to continue posting?
There was only tulip bubble, right? Could there be a second Internet bubble in the making?
If we could see how that number is arrived at, we might know what it is based on, if anything more than number of hits. And perhaps we could see ways to drive up the value higher. For example, would the value of the blog rise or fall with the addition or subtraction of any particular conspirators? If some conspirators add more value than others, could the more valuable ones jump to another blog and increase its value, getting for themselves something like what Howard Stern got when he went over to XM (or was it Sirius)?
Because you guys are worth so much I don't think I should have to give Prof. Kerr that beer that I feel like I owe him. As a matter of fact, I think he should buy me a beer.
For what it's worth, this blog is worth every penny. The level of legal analysis would command top dollar at any firm (assuming of course there was a client that actually needed it).
How can a blog be worth any sale price beyond the software and format? How much traffic would VC generate without the insightful legal analysis of the Conspirators, and the truly awful law professor puns? How much value do certain regular posters add to the mix?
I'm sure someone has attempted the "link farming and tawdry, predictable partisan blather" of the Instapundit model, and not achieved the same success.
As you already know, your blog is worth what someone will pay to buy it. Not a penny more. And, unless you ramp up the ad revenues significantly, it really isn't worth that much money.
Of course, the value of this site to people like me can't be measured in dollars.
Sincerely,
Wimpy
How much would you sell it for?

Which means we should all get a cut of that internet money!
(Actually, I wish I could get more comments without shamelessly promoting it.)

Just ask Eric Cartman.
(1) Underwear + (2) ??????? = (3) PROFIT!!!!
And what's with all this crap about Heller? Who's going to make any serious money off of that?
