Correction from the OpinionJournal's Political Diary:

Correction

Larry Craig is a Republican senator from Idaho, not Wyoming. Apologies to Wyoming (and condolences to Idaho).

3L:
It was an obvious mistake. Idaho only elect Senators with skills.

I don't think it was a mistake. Everyone knows that Idaho Doesn't really exist.

Maybe they could elect Napoleon Dynamite, from the metropolis of Preston, Idaho, to succeed Sen. Craig.

He had skills.

Six months ago, I'm not sure that anyone would have looked at Mike Enzi and Craig Thomas and said, whoa, Wyoming is getting a much higher grade of representation in the Senate. But poor Wyoming, lest it be embarrassed by a closeted gay without the good sense to leave office when everyone is laughing at him.

Ben,

It is, but what might not be clear if one wasn't there at the time it was created is that it isn't intended to be an Idaho joke. Rather, it was a direct parody of certain Holocaust deniers who used to spam various politics newsgroups on usenet with the same sort of "logic." (Basically, that if you ignore firsthand accounts, history books, and experts, then there's really no proof.)

Six months ago, Senator Craig Thomas was dying of leukemia. Jokes about the quality of the representation he was providing the citizens of Wyoming at the time are in rather poor taste.

I was in an airport bathroom in Cleveland this week. I had a powerful urge as I entered a stall to say in a loud voice "So, anyone a Republican?"

And from the next stall over, "Not another %^$&# lobbyist!"
