Extreme Zoology:

From a Daily Mail (UK) article, "Disguise that took the intrepid zoologist into the crocodiles' lair." Thanks for GeekPress for the pointer.

BobH (mail):
NOT an actual crocodile, but an AMAZING SIMULATION!!!

Fortunately, the real croc found the mock-up neither appetizing nor attractive.

Risky. Very risky.

What would be worse, if the croc was hungry, or if it was in heat?

On The Way...:
Well...if the croc was in heat the person underneath would quickly turn into a tasty snack. I imagine the costume is not nearly as convincing belly up.

"not nearly as convincing belly up"

I'm going to regret admitting that I actually know enough about this to correct you, but "belly up" wouldn't be an issue.

Here's a pic.

David Matthews,

Well, I'll join you in the regrets then. From what I know, the great majority of mammals normally mate doggy-style. The missionary approach is, as far as I know, limited to humans.

Glen Whitman (mail) (www):
Crocs are not mammals, of course. Reptiles are sometimes equipped with "hemipenes," or forked penises that allow an approach from either side of the reptile female's not-easily-lifted tail.

Bill Poser (mail) (www):
Yes, crocs are not mammals, but most of the familiar animals are mammals, which makes the point that if we can get past our human practices, we should think of doggy-style as normal.

Truth Seeker:
Okay this is OT but did you hear the theory that the reason women evolved large breasts was to convince men to come around to the front? (Since they were used to looking for 2 round pink globes of the posterior.)

Desmond Morris, The Naked Ape. Like many of his claims, this one makes me wonder what professional opinion holds on the subject.

we should think of doggy-style as normal.

Well, yeah ....

I wonder if one could use a similar disguise to study the anthropology of lawyers? Probably not as safe, though.

On The Way...:

The missionary approach is, as far as I know, limited to humans.

It also applies to a variety of marine mammals, hence my confusion about crocodiles.
