VC Traffic:
The month of July brought the heaviest traffic we have had at the Volokh Conspiracy: over 600,000 visits during the month, at least as measured by Sitemeter. Some of that was due to the O'Connor retirement and Roberts nomination, which like pre-election traffic will mostly drop away over time. Still, thanks to everyone for visiting.

What did visitor #500,000 get?

As punishment, visitor 500k was forced to clean up everybody else's mess.

I'm _still_ amused by the old joke that's similar to the prize for winning a pie-eating contest (more pie):

First prize on our grand gala sweepstakes: An all-expenses paid trip for one week to Philadelphia, cradle of the young nation, first Capital, historic city of liberty and brotherly love, and hometown of Howard Bashman.

Second prize: two weeks in Philadelphia.

Yo! I live outside Philly. . . we'll sic Rocky on you! BTW, the town is a nice place to visit or even to live in.

Probably because you've opened up comments. Those extra clicks to comment turn into visits.

And those who comment want to keep re-visiting the site to see who has responded to them.

And ... and... yeah.

Craig: as you'd know if you visited my blog (hint, hint) I'm a Philly blogger. I don't live _near_ the city - "outside the city" means "not in the city" - I live and work in Center City. Also, I've lived in South, West, and (briefly) Northeast Philly.

Also, "Yo."

Looking at the "summary" page, I'm not so sure. It appears that there are only slightly more page views than visits, which implies that the average user only views the main page and doesn't click through to the comments. It means that few people are reading this right now, but also that the extra visits aren't caused by extra clicks to see comments.

That said, it doesn't rule out Adam's hypothesis about return visitors to see what comments have been left.

Is it true that most of the VC traffic passes through Cambodia and Laos?

Do you have plans to blog us back to the Stone Age?
